Montenegro has another free digital game that combines fun, learning and discovery of its cultural and natural heritage. Digital Jigsaws offers more than 100 puzzles across five thematic collections, featuring familiar illustrations from the Montenegrin Colouring Book and memory game editions. Designed primarily for children, but also for older players who enjoy jigsaws, the app offers a creative and educational way to spend time on a phone or tablet.
Developed by CS Cassiopeia with the support of Montenegro’s Ministry of Culture and Media, the project continues the development of free digital content about Montenegro. Available for iOS, Android and the web, the app joins Creative Blocks and the Digital Colouring Book on the Mansarda platform.
A Familiar Game Featuring Montenegro
The app currently offers five collections: Miraculous Montenegro, National Costumes of Montenegro, Boka Kotorska, Cetinje and Podgorica. Players piece together illustrations of towns, the coastline, mountains and cultural heritage, including traditional dress. Illustrations from the Montenegrin Colouring Book and memory game collections have been adapted for a new activity. Scenes and subjects that children and adults have previously coloured or recognised on cards can now be explored through shapes, details and the relationships between them.
From Simple Puzzles to Greater Challenges
The game guides players through three difficulty levels. They begin with the easiest puzzles and gradually progress to more complex tasks. Along the way, children and adults become familiar with how the puzzles work, build confidence and move on to challenges that require greater attention and persistence. Progress is saved, so players can leave a puzzle unfinished and return to it later. They can also choose one of 12 avatars to accompany them through the game.
What You Practise While Solving Jigsaws
Solving jigsaws involves careful observation, comparison and experimentation. Children and adults recognise colours and shapes, remember details and work out where each piece belongs. By connecting individual pieces to the picture they are assembling, they practise spatial reasoning, visual memory and concentration. The game also offers opportunities to develop patience and persistence. When a piece does not fit, players need to try a different approach, look more closely and find another solution. A completed puzzle provides a visible result of their effort, while gradual progression encourages them to keep playing and tackle more demanding tasks.
Digital Jigsaws can be enjoyed independently or together with parents, friends and older family members. The illustrations provide opportunities to talk about Montenegro, its towns, nature and traditions. For Montenegrin families abroad, the app offers another way to introduce children to their country of origin.
Working on a puzzle together also gives children opportunities to explain how they found a particular piece, compare observations and help one another. Adults can encourage them with questions about colours, shapes and the places shown, while giving them space to find solutions independently.
“We want the time children spend on phones and tablets to have creative and educational value. Through jigsaws, they observe closely, remember details, try out solutions and gradually master increasingly challenging tasks. At the same time, they discover scenes and subjects from Montenegro featured in our publications. Although we designed the game primarily for children, we believe older players who enjoy jigsaws will join in too,” says Adrijana Husić, editor of the editions.
Mansarda Brings Together Colouring Books, Memory Games and Digital Jigsaws
Digital Jigsaws is part of the wider development of the Mansarda platform, a joint publishing venture between CS Cassiopeia and partner studio ribizla. Through print and digital editions, Mansarda introduces Montenegro’s cultural and natural heritage to children and a wider audience, combining original illustrations with learning and play.
Digital Jigsaws follows Creative Blocks, a free bilingual app that combines memory games with educational texts about Montenegro’s nature, heritage and notable women, and the Digital Colouring Book, which brings illustrations from the printed colouring books to the screen. New collections will be available soon.
All three apps have been developed with the support of Montenegro’s Ministry of Culture and Media through its programme co-financing projects of importance to the development of creative industries, from 2024 to the present.
