New Montenegrin Colouring Book – the most sought-after edition, “National Costumes of Montenegro”, now available to everyone

After a first, non-commercial edition, the colouring book dedicated to Montenegro’s national costumes is now available in bookshops and on the Mansarda.me platform for anyone who wants to explore cultural heritage in a different way.

The Montenegrin Colouring Book National Costumes of Montenegro is entering its second print run in less than a year. Unlike the first edition, which was published as a limited, non-commercial series and was not intended for sale, this edition is available to everyone: to kindergartens and schools, bookshops and souvenir shops, families and guests of our country.

The revised edition follows the concept of the first, is bilingual, and is available to order as of today in a print run of 1,000 copies. Interest began before the print run even left the printers: enquiries came from kindergartens, bookshops, and souvenir shops, but also from parents and individuals who saw the colouring book last year and wanted to get a copy of their own.

“We are proud to be printing this edition again, and even prouder of the reason why. The enquiries we have received since our first presentation, first for the Costumes of Poland and Montenegro colouring book, which we created with the Embassy of Poland in Montenegro, and then for this one, are a great encouragement to us. This is not the first colouring book we have reprinted, but it is the one that has generated the greatest interest from day one. We are especially proud of our cooperation with the International Women’s Club of Montenegro, which gave this edition the wind in its sails last year,” says Adrijana Husić, editor of the edition.

“Last year, you could receive this colouring book as a gift. This year, it is the ideal gift, both for children and for adults,” Husić adds.

Cultural heritage told through authentic illustrations

National Costumes of Montenegro features 40 carefully illustrated women’s and men’s national costumes from every part of the country, from ceremonial dress and the Montenegrin cap to the distinctive costumes of the north and the coast, along with a double sticker sheet and short accompanying texts in Montenegrin and English. Monika Lang created the illustrations, with an expert contribution from ethnologist Tatjana Rajković of the Ethnographic Museum of Montenegro.

Although the edition’s primary audience is children, the story of cultural heritage told in this way also reaches adults, both people living in Montenegro and those visiting our country. The stickers serve as a guide, showing how the costumes are actually coloured, yet the colouring book still leaves room for imagination and encourages creativity.

National Costumes of Montenegro will soon also be available as the first Montenegrin digital puzzle.

Montenegrin Colouring Book digital editions through the Digital Colouring Book app

Less than a month ago, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Media, CS Cassiopeia launched the first digital colouring book as a free app for iOS and Android, as well as a web version on the Mansarda.Me platform.

Colouring is designed to be simple even for the youngest users. You choose a colour and a brush thickness, and as you drag your finger across the drawing, the colour goes beneath the lines, which always remain visible, so the drawing cannot be spoiled. A long press on a colour opens lighter and darker tones; the eraser removes, and the arrow undoes the last stroke. The finished drawing is saved to the gallery, where you can reopen it to continue, share, or save it to the device. The app is completely free, with no ads and no in-app purchases, and works without an internet connection.

The colouring books currently available in the app, with almost 100 drawings, are:

  • Wondrous Montenegro – the landscapes and towns of our country;
  • Birds of Montenegro – the birds that live in Montenegro;
  • Forests of Montenegro – the forests and trees of our nature;
  • From the Garden – fruit and vegetables from our garden.
